Space Satellites Designed by Students

Artificial satellite is an object that has been purposely placed into orbit. The history of the first world space satellite dated back to October 1957 when the Soviet Union scholars launched Sputnik 1. Since then, a great number of scholars have been working on the creation of new satellites that orbit the Earth. Currently, over 2500 satellites can be tracked in space, with some of them launched by the teams of students. Keep reading the article to find out the information about the top three most famous satellites designed by students and young scholars.

Satellite by Florida Middle School Students


The CubeSat project is one of the most recent projects which brought the Weiss School an ultimate success. The seven graders have been working on the construction of the satellite for three years, but the hard work has finally paid off. The purpose of the project is to check whether bacteria can survive in extreme conditions. A team of goal-oriented students tested the product at Kennedy Space Center to get it ready for the real-time launch in California. Several students, who worked to design and built the satellite came to watch its launch into space on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket live. It took much time and effort for students to achieve the desired result. The satellite model of the Weiss School was the only chosen from all the middle school proposals. Striving to succeed with WeissSat-1, the seven graders had to spend three years working on the project. Some students had to learn more about speedypaper in order to focus on the research and still stay efficient at other classes. Once the students have got more time and an opportunity to put more effort in the design of the satellite, they decided to send extremophile bacteria into space and check whether it can survive.

Boston University SATellite


The BUSAT program is another example of student contribution to space exploration. The project developed by Boston University is focused on the study of the electric currents in the magnetic field of the Earth. The private rocket is equipped with a whole network of small sensors that can provide the communication of data to the ground. Despite the high-quality structure and excellent functions of the satellite, its launch has been delayed a few times.
Finally, after considerable changes in the hardware and software, the BUSAT satellite blasted off. Despite the students didn’t have an opportunity to watch the launch in real life, everyone could watch this important moment online.

Satellite by Students of Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla


Although the first satellite built by students in Mexico is smaller in size than a shoebox, its launch has become a great step in the future career for its builders. Work on the project took much time and effort, so some students had to find a quality academic help service, read review, and get its assistance just to continue the creation of the satellite. In this way, the multidisciplinary team of the university students got an opportunity to design and test a small satellite with a great mission.
